Gina McKinna, Freelance Graphic Designer & Brand Consultant, Carslbad
Packaging Design explores how brands come to life in the real world—on shelves, in hands, and in the moments that matter most at purchase. This elective focuses on packaging as both a branding tool and a storytelling surface. Students will learn how to translate strategy into structure, using design, materials, typography, and form to create packaging that stands out and communicates instantly. You’ll study what makes packaging iconic, functional, and shareable—and how small details can make a product feel premium, purposeful, or disruptive. By the end of the 5-week course, students will develop a fully realized packaging concept, from visual identity to form factor, built to live in the real world and compete on shelf.
